When does Find Your Joy start?
We officially begin on June 6th!
Do I still have time to sign up…
Even though we don’t start until June 6th, the last day to sign up is June 2nd (at midnight in Pacific Daylight time, to be precise).
How long is the course?
The course lasts 10 weeks. During that time, we have two learning integration weeks, during which there are no new lessons (but I do offer optional assignments).
This allows everyone time to keep up with the assignments and get all questions answered. We’ll wrap the course up on August 12th.
How are the lessons delivered?
All lessons and painting demos are posted in a private website (“the hub”) which you will be able to access with a secure password.
We also have a private Facebook group where you can discuss assignments and share your work. This is entirely optional of course.
Once per week, there is a live Q&A session which you can watch via Zoom (a free app) or within the private Facebook group.
What materials are required?
I suggest working primarily in acrylics because they dry so quickly and they are so flexible, However, you could also work in mixed media, in watercolour, or even in oils. The media is not as important as just doing the exercises.
I’m a total beginner. Will this be too advanced for me?
NO! The assignments and lessons will be perfect for you. I wish I had found a course like this when I was starting out!
But Louise, I’ve got no talent. Seriously.
Sorry. I’m not buying that. You’ve got talent, but it’s buried under years of learned cannots, shoulds, and musts waiting to be discovered. You won’t believe how much of an artist you truly are! I can’t wait to help you uncover your true talent.
I’ve been making artwork for a while now. I’m worried this is not for experienced artists like me.
Experienced artists have totally transformed their art practice for the better thanks to Find Your Joy. No! Every assignment on this course comes with two options: work representationally OR work abstractly. This approach to making art has nothing to do with the type of work you want to make - it’s about finding your own voice, whatever that might be.
I want critiques of my art. Is this included?
The Facebook group is a great place to discuss your work with others, however there are no formal critiques on this course.
One-on-one time with a mentor can be great but the feedback actually holds you back. Instead of telling you how to paint, I want to help you be your own critic and guide. I want you to never have to ask again 'is this right?' because you'll know. While you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask me questions, the main objective is not to critique your artwork. Rather, it's a course about loosening up and painting freely, discovering all you need inside yourself.
Oh ok. But Can I ask Louise questions?
Absolutely. You can ask questions under each lesson in the portal. You can also submit questions each week for the live Q&A chat.
