How I Make Collage Paper with Stencils

Making-Collage-Paper-with-Stencils-blog.png

This week, I demonstrate how I’ve been using stencils to make my own collage paper for use in my paintings.

I find that I achieve a different, looser feel by painting onto tissue paper and gluing it down than if I had just painted directly onto the board. I love seeing the contrast between the stencil designs and the loose organic brush marks and this has become a key element of my work in recent months.I buy wet-strength tissue paper and I purchase my stencils on eBay or Etsy. (I just check the sites regularly and buy anything that looks interesting). I use regular acrylic paints although I know many people prefer spray paints for stencils, and I use acrylic medium to glue the collage pieces down.

Check out my demo below. Let me know if you try incorporating stencils into your paintings and how they turn out!
