This painting was one of a breakthrough series created in Italy on a painting retreat. The whole series was an emotional catharsis relating to years of struggle and personal difficulty, but also to my emergence from that time, feeling stronger than ever. The work was created with layers of paint and drawing materials, creating a sense of history that mirrors the personal history it depicts.
